“It's Fall Y'all” Wood Sign Tutorial
designed by: Vicki Chrisman

Hello Little Blue House Friends.
Today I’m going to share with you how I created the Fall wood wall hanging décor project I made with goodies from my Front Porch Kit.  There are so many fun things in this kit, I could have easily done this up with many different variations, but this is what I chose.

Cut one strip of the brown patterned paper (Harvest Acorns) 10”x 3 ¼”.  Measure down from the top of the wood plaque 4 ½” and attach this piece temporarily with a small bit of repositionable adhesive.

Flip your wood piece and paper over and trace both edges where you will trim to fit. Once you have trimmed by edges, you can permanently attach it to the wood piece.

You will do the same with the cork paper. Fitting it at the bottom of the wood piece under the brown paper you have just added.  Lay the cork paper down and trace for trimming in the same way.

Once you have the cork paper trimmed to fit your plaque, adhering it is easy because the cork piece has a self-adhesive backing. All you have to do is remove the backing and add the cork to the wood piece.  Cut a 1/4” strip of the (Sweater Weather) paper and adhere just above the top of the cork piece on your plaque.

Finish off by adding the gold checked paper to the top section that is left, in the same way.

At any time now you can adhere you ribbon for hanging.
Attach to the back of the wood plaque with a hot glue gun.

Now, cover five of the chipboard banner pieces with a mix of the gorgeous fall papers from the kit. Once they are all covered, punch holes with a small punch. Run the jute thru each of them to create a banner.  Tie bows with the jute to attach to the ends of the banner once you have adhered it to the bottom of the project (on the cork).  I found that the glue gun worked well for this.

Layout all the letters and “Fall” word for the saying onto your plaque and make sure it’s where you want it before adhering permanently.   I added some (Royal Coat- Dimensional Magic) to the word “Fall” to make it stand off the page even more, Glossy Accents or Diamond Glaze will work for this step too.  (this is optional) #note: be sure to let this completely dry before working any further.

Your last step is you create and add your flowers.  I used a die to cut the paper flower pieces. You can use any flower shaped die you might have, or you can cut the flower shapes by hand.

Any simple flower shape will work fine.
To create the fabric base piece to start with, you’ll be using the strip of muslin from your kit.  With a needle and thread, just do a simple loose running stitch along the inside edge.  Once you have finished, just pull it to gather and tie the two ends of the thread together.  Now you have your base piece.  Using a hot glue gun, layer the other flower paper pieces on top, largest to smallest.  Using the orange twine, run it thru the button and tie a big bow. After attaching this to finish off the flower, add the finished flower to the plaque.

I hope you feel inspired to create a wall hanging/ plaque of your own.  It's great way to welcome in Fall.
